Hydrochlorothiazide
API
N° CAS 58-93-5
Diuretics
- Hydrochlorothiazide is a dituretic molecule of the thiazide class.
- A white or almost white crystalline powder. Very slightly soluble in water, soluble in acetone, sparingly soluble in ethanol (96%). It dissolves in dilute solutions of alkali hydroxides.
- It reduces blood volume by acting on the kidneys to reduce sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule. The primary site of action in the nephron occurs on an electroneutral NaCl cotransporter by competing for the chloride site on the transporter. By impairing Na+ transport in the distal convoluted tubule, hydrochlorothiazide induces natriuresis and concomitant water loss.
